Our opportunity
We are seeking a Tax Accountant to join our team at the Brisbane Head Office (South Brisbane) who would love to grow in the role. This position is critical in fulfilling reporting requirements to ensure that Lactalis Australia adheres to its taxation compliance obligations, both for external and Head Office reporting. The successful candidate will report directly to the Taxation Manager with the focus on the following:
Key Responsibilities:
Taxation
Annual
- Preparation of income tax returns and supporting work papers.
- Preparation of annual FBT returns and supporting work papers.
- Preparation of FBT related outputs required by payroll e.g. annual reportable fringe benefits schedule for use by payroll in employee PAYG statements, and schedule of fringe benefits by State for payroll tax purposes.
Six-Monthly
- Preparation of tax estimates, tax-specific Hyperion Reporting, and Group Tax Reporting Schedules in January and July of each year. Also, preparation of any taxation schedules requested by the auditors during their review.
- Assistance in the preparation and posting of tax journals to the ledger.
- Assistance in the preparation of true-up tax estimates and associated journals.
- Preparation of PAYG non-resident withholding work papers for the years June and December for dual purposes of complying with ATO requirements and obtaining a Certificate of Payment for the foreign parent’s tax compliance.
- Liaise with the Fixed Asset Officer to ensure the accuracy of the Tax Fixed Asset Register.
Quarterly
- Quarterly review of FBT logbooks.
Monthly
- Monthly review of tax-sensitive P&L accounts and update associated supporting work papers for the income tax returns and FBT returns.
- Preparation of monthly BAS/IAS returns for all companies.
- Ad hoc technical research as and when required.
- Preparation of Lease Termination Calculations
- Support Taxation Manager in providing assistance to Lactalis Group in Australia as and when required.
Adhoc
- Assistance to HR concerning expatriate/inpatriate-related taxation matters to ensure Lactalis is compliant from a corporate tax perspective. HR are well-placed to understand the full burden cost of mobility.
- Support Taxation Manager in Mergers & Acquisitions matters, which may include considerations of Due Diligence, Structuring (Asset v Share), Funding, Integration issues, International Corporate Strategy, Tax
- Consolidations, Stamp Duty, Capital Gains Tax, Employment matters, tax registration / administration matters etc.
- Assisting the Taxation Manager in ensuring Lactalis is compliant with ATO requirements in relation to cross-border issues, including Transfer Pricing, withholding taxes, repatriation of funds, thin capitalisation, permanent establishments, etc.
- Supporting the Taxation Manager with reviews undertaken by Revenue Authorities.
- Advising business concerning various projects that may be entered into from time to time.
And other tasks and duties as reasonably requested by your manager.
ABOUT YOU:
A successful candidate for this role is someone who can demonstrate a balance of positive, value-adding behavior and outstanding results, consistently meeting commitments to all stakeholders. This position is ideal for an applicant with:
- CA / CPA qualification or Master of Taxation
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and taxation (or equivalent)
- at least 1 year experience in a professional firm, or tax office of a corporation, preferably Big 4 experience or second tier firm.
- Moderate level of knowledge and experience in the management of corporate tax, and the Australian Tax regime.
- Moderate level of knowledge and experience in GST and FBT.
- Working knowledge of international taxation, and the management of inbound/outbound mobility matters whilst not essential, would be an advantage.
- Moderate level of skilled in use of Tax and FBT return preparation software preferable.
